Dr. Todd Martin has announced plans to retire effective March 1, 2024. Dr. Martin
has worked in public education for over 33 years and has served as the
superintendent of Yadkin County Schools since October 1, 2013.
The Yadkin County Schools Board of Education would like to thank Dr. Todd
Martin for his ten years of exemplary service to our district and school community.
He has created a strong culture of collaboration, a caring environment, and high
standards in all our schools. Dr. Martin has always remained focused on
improving the lives of the students we serve, and under his strong leadership, we
have seen our schools grow in all areas. This includes significant improvements
to our school buildings and athletic facilities. Along with his district leadership, Dr.
Martin has gone above and beyond to immerse himself in all things Yadkin
County. He serves on many boards within the county and has created strong
partnerships with our area business leaders. During his tenure, Dr. Martin has
become a trusted voice for our community and someone in which many have
come to rely. He will certainly be missed, but the team of leaders that he has
developed will certainly take us into the future with a strong purpose and
direction.
Dr. Martin said, “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve as
superintendent of Yadkin County Schools. I am truly fortunate that ten years ago,
the Yadkin County Board of Education hired me. I am also fortunate that I have
been able to work with our board of education. The board members have the best
interests of students and employees at heart, and it has been a privilege to work
alongside them.
Yadkin County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. You’re not
going to find better students, better personnel, better parents, or better community
support anywhere. It has been the honor of my lifetime to be able to lead this
great school district.”
Jennifer Hemric, Chairman of the Yadkin County Board of Education, says of Dr.
Martin, “I have served alongside of Dr. Martin these last ten years, and it has truly
been a pleasure. I am so thankful for his leadership and heart for the children of
Yadkin County. He came to Yadkin County from Stokes County and immersed
himself and his family into our community. Under his tenure, Yadkin County
Schools has become one of the top rural school districts in the state. He has built
relationships with our Commissioners and Legislators, helping ensure our district
receives the funding we need. Dr. Martin will be greatly missed, but his legacy will
live on in the leadership team he has built. We wish him the best of luck on his
retirement. “
The Board of Education has named Wayne Duggins, Associate Superintendent,
as the interim Superintendent for Yadkin County Schools. Mr. Duggins has been
in education for 28 years and has served as the Associate Superintendent for
Yadkin County Schools for over six years. The Yadkin County Board of Education
will be working with its attorney to begin the process of hiring a permanent
superintendent.
