Permit/Driver's License Information

 

Materials Needed For A Permit/Driver’s License

 

 

  • A parent, legal guardian, or other approved person who has legal guardianship papers must be present at the DMV office to sign the application for a license or permit.

 

  • Fee sufficient to cover the cost of license or permit must be paid.

 

  • The driver education certificate given to the student upon completion of behind-the-wheel training must be shown.

 

  • DMV requires proof of your age and identity to protect the public from driver license fraud. A certified or original copy of the applicant’s birth certificate is needed to determine the applicant’s age. NOTE: In lieu of a birth certificate, an unexpired, stamped photo passport will be accepted
  • A North Carolina Driving Eligibility Certificate is needed. This form will be issued by the school you attend.

 

  • A Social Security Card that is NOT laminated or proof of your Social Security number is needed.

 

  • Name and driver’s license number of supervising driver(s) will need to be present. The supervising driver(s) will need to be violation free for the past 5 years. 

 

  • If you are applying for a driver’s license, you must provide a vehicle for the road test that will be given after passing the written test, sign test, and vision test.
